Scientific Focus
Current Research Interests
Focus on outcomes and health services research using observational data with a clinical concentration in inpatient medicine, critical care, transplantation, and pulmonary disease.
Organ transplantation:
(1) evaluating the effects of policy changes on organ allocation and survival after lung transplantation;
(2) assessing racial/ethnic disparities in lung and heart transplantation;
(3) describing healthcare resource utilization among organ transplant recipients;
(4) measuring regional 'transplant load' prior to waiting list registration
Patient safety:
(1) characterizing the role of patient safety measures in a national sample of patients with sepsis
Hospital-based research, in collaboration with investigators at Kaiser Permanente Division of Research:
(1) evaluating the utility of electronic risk-adjustment variables in predicting hospital outcomes
(2) re-calibrating a manual ICU risk-adjustment score for automated electronic medical records
(3) detailing the relationship between delays in ICU transfer with adverse outcomes
(4) generating algorithmic approaches to ICU database extraction
